The level of accommodation that will be provided for a permanent special school is "indicative only" at this stage.
That's according to a spokesperson for the Department of Education and Youth.
Representatives from SNAP Monaghan met with Minister of State Michael Moynihan this week.
According to the Department's spokesperson, a number of special education issues were discussed in Leinster House this week.
This included the location of Monaghan Community Special School, special class provision in Monaghan, therapy provision, transition planning, and resourcing.
The National Council for Special Education (NCSE) is the statutory body responsible for the provision of special education.
It is also in charge of allocating supports for children with special educational needs.
The spokesperson highlighted that the state-owned property in Castleblaney has been repurposed to a high standard.
It added that this has facilitated the establishment of Monaghan Community Special School for the 2025/26 school year.
The school is now at capacity and additional accommodation is required to facilitate further enrolments.
The department believes that the property at Castleblaney provides a good location for expanding capacity, with a permanent modular extension at the school.
The department is engaging with the patron, Cavan and Monaghan ETB, in this regard.
The spokesperson said the level of accommodation to be provided is indicative only at this stage and will be subject to detailed design by the design team.
