'Help is always here' says SOSAD Cavan

Christine highlighted the importance of people reaching reach out for help when they need it sooner rather than later.

When it comes to mental health and suicide prevention, it's important to know where supports are before things escalate.

That's according to Christine Wynne of SOSAD Cavan.

She was reacting to CSO figures which showed that 2020 recorded the largest number of female deaths due to suicide in a five-year period between 2018 and 2022.

Overall, the five-year average of suicides between 2018 and 2022 in Ireland was 526.

Cavan was the local authority where this share was highest, where 2.3% of all deaths in Cavan were due to suicide.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Christine says there are "amazing services" out there available in Co Cavan.

Despite this, she says there is a "contradiction" by constantly telling people to reach out yet there is no additional services which "needs to be looked at."
