There's an increase in the amount of people presenting as homeless in Cavan.
The figures show that the number of people who were homeless in the first 10 months of 2025 is greater than the whole of last year in Co Cavan.
Figures released to Cllr Stiofan Conaty reveal 75 families presented as homeless this year so far compared to 55 for the 12 months of 2025, while the number of families in Cavan accessing emergency accommodation rose from 11 in 2024 to 17 this year so far.
As of last week there were 4 families including 7 children accessing temporary emergency accommodation in Cavan.
There's been an increase of 9 adults purporting to the council as homeless in 2025 so far compared to all of 2024. While there are 52 more children at the moment presenting as homeless in Cavan compared to 2024.
Cllr Conaty says these most recent figures are extremely concerning but not altogether surprising.
He said they represent a marked increase already in the 10 months to date of 2025, in comparison to 2024.
Cllr Conaty says this reflects national figures, where records are broke month on month, with over 16,500 people homeless in Ireland and the trend is going only in one direction and it is heartbreaking:
