None of the fragments of human remains that were located following a search in Annyalla are related to Joe Lynskey.
The Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains confirmed today that the fragments that were found in May of this year belong to any of the other Disappeared.
The Lynskey family have been informed.
The discovery was made in late May 2025 at Annyalla Cemetery in Co Monaghan. The remains were discovered following a tip off concerning a plot near where a search was carried out for Joe Lynskey.
Former monk Joe Lynskey was 40 when he was abducted, murdered and secretly buried by the IRA in 1972. Information was received by the commission about a small area of interest which was examined within the confines of the cemetery and the remains were located.
A commission spokesperson said following analysis none of the remains are connected to the so called Disappeared. Maria Lynskey, the niece of Joe Lynskey speaking to Northern Sound in recent weeks, she appealed for information to allow her family have closure.
