The Bailieboro Bridewell conservation has been shortlisted for a national award.
The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland has announced the shortlist for the 2025 Public Choice Award, inviting the public to cast their vote for Ireland's favourite building or public space of the year.
Bailieboro Bridewell has been designed by Cooney Architects is has been shortlisted in the Adaptation and Re-use category.
The design features a series of linked spaces that foster community engagement, while ensuring economic viability. A quality-driven, conservation approach preserves the site’s history, while integrating modern functionality. This adaptive reuse strategy revitalises the Bridewell, balancing public, cultural and commercial uses to create a sustainable, vibrant community hub.
The Public Choice Award is the only architectural award in Ireland decided by public vote. It invites people to recognise the buildings and places that enrich their everyday lives - from homes and schools to public spaces, community hubs, and vital infrastructure.
Now in its 36th year, the RIAI Architecture Awards celebrate excellence in Irish and international architecture. This year, 124 projects were submitted, with a total of 247 entries across 12 categories, as some projects compete for more than one award. Following a rigorous assessment process, 48 projects - including 21 in Dublin, 20 regionally and 6 internationally - have been shortlisted for the Public Choice Award.
