Increase in assault figures across Cavan and Monaghan

There's been a 44 per cent increase in assaults in Cavan and Monaghan.

Analysis of crime statistics published by the CSO show that compared to the first six months of 2021, there were 103 more assaults recorded in the Cavan Monaghan Garda Division until June.

Of those classified as assault causing harm or poisoning, there was a 25 per cent increase, with 116 recorded so far this year.

Lesser, or other assault incidents saw a larger increase.

That figure went from 141 in the first half of 2021 to 221 in the same period in 2022, marking a 57 per cent increase.
