Enterprise Ireland has confirmed today that 69% of all new jobs were created last year were outside Dublin.
According to Co. Cavan Senator Joe O'Reilly, this includes 139 jobs for Cavan, and 244 jobs for Co. Monaghan.
Total employment across Enterprise Ireland client companies rose to 232,425, a net increase of 2,938 jobs over the year.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Senator O'Reilly said that people want to live in rural Ireland.
He explained that creating jobs in rural Ireland will also reduce congestion, and make things easier for those commuting to Dublin.
The Senator said it is wonderful that Enterprise Ireland is creating rural jobs.
Senator O'Reilly said: "Apart from the fact that people like to live in rural Ireland, and have family links, and want to live there.
"There is also the issue of housing in the capital, so it is important to disperse the workforce from that perspective.
"It's also important from a commuting point of view, to reduce commuting, and to reduce congestion on the roads into Dublin," he added.
