Magheracloone native Judge Gerry Jones is set to retire after one more sitting in Dublin tomorrow.
Tributes were paid on his second last official day this morning at Monaghan District Court on Monday.
The father of three bowed out to rapturous applause inside a crammed courtroom as the South Monaghan native called time on a career spanning just shy of 10 years as a judge and over 40 years in a career that began as a practicing solicitor in 1981.
Paying tribute, Sara Brennan BL on behalf of the local Bar Council said Judge Jones’ long and esteemed career both as a district court judge and legal practitioner were both eminent and unerring spells in Monaghan’s legal annals that would stand the test of time.
She added that he has long been an integral part of the legal community in county Monaghan and the high regard and respect in which is held is truly deserved.
