Gardaí work to identify Annyalla human remains discovery

Yesterday, the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains confirmed that the fragments found in May do not belong to any of the Disappeared.

There is an ongoing Garda investigation around bone samples retrieved from the gravesite in Annyalla, Co. Monaghan in May this year.

Gardaí informed the ICLVR of the results of DNA testing carried out on remains exhumed from a grave in Annyalla in November 2024.

The local coroner was notified at that time, and An Garda Síochána commenced enquires to determine the correct identification of the remains.

As part of its ongoing work, the ICLVR undertook a subsequent search operation at a location in Co. Monaghan on the 13th of May this year.

During the search fragments of human remains were discovered.

A Garda spokesperson told Northern Sound, that the remains are undergoing analysis to determine identification.

Three skeletal remains, which had been exhumed from the Comiskey grave last November, were reinterred as part of a private service recently.

The investigation around the other bone samples retrieved from the gravesite at Annyalla in May is ongoing.

Gardaí said that no other information is available at this time.
