Ireland should meet its 'international obligation' to support refugees

Councillor Feeley welcomed the 30 Ukrainian refugees who arrived to his home village last week.

A Cavan councillor believes Ireland should meet its international obligation to support those fleeing the war in Ukraine.

Councillor John Paul Feeley says it is "not possible" to cap the number of refugees entering the country, despite capacity concerns to house Ukrainian refugees, with the supply of hotel and B&B places almost exhausted.

While securing long-term housing is proving to be a "huge challenge" according to Cllr Feely, the Blacklion native believes that while it may be "difficult," appropriate accommodation is still out there.

Speaking with Joe Finnegan earlier today, Councillor Feeley welcomed the 30 Ukrainian refugees who arrived to his home village last week, adding that their arrival has put "everything into perspective."
