The mother of a young woman found dead in Monaghan almost 18 months ago says she will be contacting the new Garda Commissioner in the coming weeks.
10 months ago the previous Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris ordered a review into the death of Kelly Lynch.
Julieanne Lynch says she is no further on in relation to getting the answers that she and her family need and has confirmed she will be contacting Commissioner Justin Kelly. The body of her 23-year-old daughter, Kelly, was found on St Patrick's Day 2024 by the banks of the Ulster Canal in Monaghan Town.
Since she learned of Kelly's death, Julieanne suspected foul play. She believes there are people in the area that know what happened to Kelly on the night she was last seen alive.
A special event called 'A Day For Kelly' is taking place in Dundalk this weekend to celebrate Kelly's life and to support the ongoing fight for justice. Juileanne says from the very start, she believes the investigation was very badly handled and she has grave concerns over this.
It's important to note that while the Commissioner ordered a peer review, the Gardaí's original investigation into the death of Kelly Lynch remains open at this time.
Gardai continue to appeal to anyone with information on the death of Ms Lynch to contact them. Kelly's mother says she has had no contact from Gardai in two months in relation to the death of her daughter.
She says she will be asking Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly to give her the answers that her family have been denied and to get justice for Kelly.
An Garda Síochána issued Northern Sound with the following statement:
Former Garda Commissioner Drew Harris and Chief Superintendent Alan McGovern, Louth-Cavan-Monaghan Division, met with the family of Ms Kelly Lynch on 21st October 2024, and listened carefully to their concerns.
Following this meeting, Commissioner Harris directed that a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) from a Division external to the Louth-Cavan-Monaghan Division conduct a peer review of the investigation into the death of Ms Lynch.
An Garda Síochána is currently conducting that peer review of the original Garda investigation. The SIO of the Peer Review is keeping the family up to date with the progress of the review.
An Garda Síochána is also assisting the Coroner's Inquest and fully co-operating with the Fiosrú investigation. An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to anyone with information on the death of Ms Lynch to contact Gardaí.
