A local group is appealing for people interested in taking in a cat to reach out to them.
The Kitten Cottage is a non-profit animal sanctuary based just outside Virginia.
So far this year the group has neutered over 200 cats, trap, neuter and release of 97 cats, taken in 211 and rehomed 202.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Maire Egan of the Kitten Cottage explained that, due to the milder summer, the kittens they currently have are younger than what they usually would expect at this point of the year.
She added that a lot of the kittens they have may require a slight bit of extra care, but they will cover the vet bills, if people can offer them a comfortable home.
