The late Eugene "Nudie" Hughes has left a legacy cemented by the dedication that he had as a player for Monaghan GAA and bringing pride and spirit to Co Monaghan.
That's according to Rita Shah from the Shabra Group who described Nudie as "the most inspirational and positive person" she has ever met.
Speaking to Northern Sound, she said "the Shabra Group are heartbroken by the news of his passing, a cherished former colleague, his presence was deeply valued across the Shabra team".
The Shabra Group president said the three-rime All Star made a profound difference to so many people's lives and she described the news of his passing as a really sad day for Monaghan.
Hughes is one of only a small number of players to have been recognised in defence and attack; his first coming as a corner-back with the others coming as a corner-forward.
Those three All-Star winning years coincided with Monaghan winning the Ulster title while in 1985. Where, Nudie was also part of the team that won the National Football League.
Hughes picked up a Railway Cup medal in 1984 as part of Ulster's winning side and also won two Ulster club football titles with Castleblaney Faughs.
Rita Shah says Nudie was such a true example of people who are battling an illness that remain positive, strong and who just get on with it. She says it's very hard to comprehend his untimely passing, adding that she was very proud of all he achieved.
