A Co Monaghan businessman has confirmed that he has purchased the former Co-Op site in Monaghan Town.
Michael Treanor of Monaghan Electrical Wholesaler Limited told this morning's Joe Finnegan Show that he purchased the iconic premises over the last month.
Monaghan Town Co-Op closed its doors one last time in 2025, after 124 years in operation.
The local business had employed generations of local people over its 100 years in existence.
Monaghan Electrical Wholesaler Limited was set up by local man Michael Treanor in 1986 and currently employs 60 people.
The headquarters are based in Monaghan, but the business also has bases in Carrickmacross, Cavan Town and services counties North of the border.
Mr Treanor revealed he plans to move his business into the former Co-Op premises, with an event already planned for February 17th: "We just recently bought the old Co-Op premises in Monaghan Town and we plan to expand our business to there. It just happened in the last month and it's our next big project. The first thing that's happening at the former Co-Op site is we're hosting a Milwaukee Tool day on the 17th of February and we plan to have a massive day at the premises."
