A local councillor is calling for CCTV to be installed across the Sliabh Beagh area.
Sein Fein's Bronagh McAree expressed her "shock" and "anger" over recent vandalism in the area.
Over the last number of days picnic benches, fencing and information boards beside the historic Penal Cross were destroyed.
Cllr McAree says it is "unfortunate" that she has to make this call, however this is not the first time that an incident of this nature has happened.
The local representative believes "prevention is key" especially when dealing with other incidents such as fly-typing and dumping which occur on a regular basis.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Mc Aree says CCTV will act as a "deterrent."
She also believes it's vitally important to protect the beauty of the area so that people can enjoy it to its fullest potential:
"I would like to call for, unfortunately, for the installation of CCTV because this is not the first time this has happened. It's been vandalised before and there's also a high incidence of fly-tipping and jumping as well, so just to protect the beauty of the area and ensure that people get to enjoy it to its full potential."
