A Monaghan County Councillor has called for an examination of traffic calming measures on the Clones Road, Ballybay.
Seamus Coyle raised the issue saying that residents are living in fear for their safety with the speed of the traffic.
Cllr. Coyle also suggested the use of mobile speed vans in the area might discourage speeding.
In response, Monaghan County Council said that the area will be included in a funding application for the Low Safety Improvement Funding for 2026.
It also noted that, Monaghan County Council liaise with Gardai about the use of speed vans at locations where there is recorded speeding, however there are some locations that are not suitable for Go Safe Vans.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr. Coyle, outlined the issue.
"Thankfully to date we have had no major incidents in this area, but I am certainly asking that it would be addressed and that will be looked at and that we will get, and I know the council did, in response to me, say that they will be putting in as one of the low-cost schemes for 2026 in their applications, and I do hope this issue can be addressed, but I suppose the one thing I can do today is appeal to all users of the Clones Road/Hall Street in Ballybay to just be aware that they're in a residential area and very often there are children, very often there are many people walking."
