A Monaghan county councillor is calling for measures to prevent road traffic incidents near a popular forest.
Richard Truell is drawing attention to a recent incident on the R188, Monaghan to Cootehill at the location of Erica's Fairy Forest.
Recently a vehicle collided with the stone wall. There was no one was injured on this occasion.
However, Cllr. Truell is noting that the location is a documented accident hotspot, having seen a fatal Heavy Goods Vehicle collision in 2023.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the Fine Gael man outlined the measures he would like to see.
"I have asked the council to instal a robust crash barrier to bend to shield vehicles from colliding with the stone wall or overturning into footpaths or private property and flashing warning signage to clearly signal an upcoming hazard and reduce speeds upon approach and targeted traffic calming measures such as rumble strips or speed limit reduction in that affected stretch so road markings or something to warn traffic about this black spot in this dangerous corner."
