A Co Cavan councillor is calling an outright ban on disposable vapes. Cabinet approval was granted to a draft Bill to further regulate nicotine inhaling products, including a complete ban on disposable vapes. Despite this, Cllr Brendan Fay says there has been absolutely no regulation when it comes to this, as he has seen with his own eyes young people who are well under the age of 18 coming out of premises in Cavan Town with a vape.
As a result of leniency shown by those wanting to make a “quick buck,” Cllr Fay says we now have a situation where young people are “hooked” yet there are no resources to help them stop. He says "50 years ago there were signs everywhere saying smoking was good for you and now we know it isn’t, I don’t want the same happening to our young people when it comes to disposable vapes.” Cllr Fay warned that we have kids at 13 or 14 years of age who are addicted with no support systems out there to help them with this problem;
