Local calls for public to be aware of sepsis

A new documentary on sepsis, highlighting stories like Sophie's, will premiere this Thursday, October 23rd.

A spokesperson from North East Sepsis awareness is urging others to trust their instincts after her teenage daughter nearly died from sepsis.

Hannah Torsney's daughter Sophie was 17 years old when she became critically ill after developing she was first assumed to be a simple kidney infection.

After multiple GP visits and rounds of antibiotics, Sophie's condition was deteriorating and she became was starting to become confused.

Sophie was then sent to Cavan General, where she received further antibiotics, but her health was not improving.

Hannah was urged to demand blood cultures and that vital step led to a sepsis diagnosis and life saving treatment.

A new documentary on sepsis, highlighting stories like Sophie's, will premiere on Thursday, October 23rd.
