A local councillor has shared his frustrations over the lack of action taken by the Department of Agriculture when it comes to concerns regarding TB in Co Monaghan. According to Fine Gael's Sean Gilliland, there is an "epidemic" across the Ballybay-Clones MD when it comes to TB, however he has "absolutely no confidence" in the Department of Agriculture when it comes to its handling of the situation. Members of the Ballybay-Clones MD previously wrote to the department to request a meeting with officials over the matter, however Cllr Gilliland described the department's response as " deeply disappointing" and nobody was available to meet the local authority.
According to Cllr Gilliland, Monaghan is the worst impacted county in Ireland at the moment in terms of TB records. Speaking to Northern Sound, the local representative says "livelihoods are at stake" yet the current situation doesn't seem to be a top priority of the agricultural department:
