192 adult asylum seekers were placed in children’s accommodation over the past three years.
Tulsa had mistakenly placed the international protection applicants in children’s care, before establishing they were over 18.
This year there have been 86 such cases, that’s more than double the 2023 figures.
The information was obtained by Cavan-Monaghan TD Matt Carthy.
He says there needs to be more resources to ensure this doesn’t continue to happen: "This is another area that we need to actually prioritise and put in place the resources to either Tusla or the IPO make a determination as to who is ultimately responsible for age verification, give them the resources to do that and make sure we don't end up in a situation were we have adults in children's facilities."
