A Co Cavan councillor has brought a motion to Cavan County council calling on the local authority to support Luke's Law.
34 year old Luke Hyde died after he got into difficulty while swimming in the north channel of the River Lee in Cork in April of this year.
Since then his family have been campaigning for the recording of tragic accidents to be made illegal.
Tragically, video footage of Luke's final moments was recorded and shared on social media. Luke's devastated mum Elizabeth and his childhood friend KellyAnn are leading the campaign
Cllr Shane P O'Reilly brought the motion at this month's council meeting to show support with the Hyde family. He says we have lost our ways as a society and a deterrent needs to be place going forward.
