A local councillor is voicing concerns about the state of footpaths and roads in a county Cavan village.
Stiofan Conaty noted that a recent announcement for additional money for active travel is very welcome.
Cllr Conaty had previously made representations for applications under the active travel to improve footpaths and roads in Redhills Village.
He noted that the scheme is not exactly designed to fund footpaths and roads, be has been told on many occasions there is probably no other feasible route at the moment for the improvement of footpaths.
Cllr Conaty said when the additional money was announced he queried the application had been made and was disappointed to hear that it was rejected.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the Sinn Fein councillor it's disappointing for the "beautiful little village".
"With an awful lot of things Redhills doesn't seem to get the rub of the green when it comes to funding and I'm not saying that's the council's fault, it's the nature of the funding schemes that we have available to us on a national level that the council can apply for. But I just want to reiterate the fact the footpaths in Redhills, they're dangerous, they're outdated, they're unsightly and they need to be addressed. It's a glaring issue that everyone can see and the roads around the village as well are cut up. So this is a beautiful little village, along the border with Monaghan and Fermanagh, it's so well kept by locals and there's such a great spirit in the area and it would just be great now if the funders could get on board with the local efforts that are going on to enhance and improve the village"
