A mother in the Northern Sound region has opened about the stress of waiting for speech and language therapy for her daughter.
Paula's daughter Annie was referred for speech and language therapy in May 2023, when she was 20 months.
Paula was advised at the time the wait may be about two years, but has recently gotten an update that she will probably be waiting until January or February 2026.
Currently, the local woman is paying for private speech and language therapy for her child, as she believes early and frequent intervention is crucial.
Paula talked on the Joe Finnegan show about why she has spoken out about her experience; "I'm not the only parent waiting on intervention. I want my child to achieve the best that she can in life and I suppose she's not going to achieve that without the support of speech and language. Our daughter's speech is not going to be corrected without early and frequent intervention of a speech and language therapist"
She added "I want Annie to fit in. I want her to be able to play with her peers."
