The chairperson of Monaghan IFA has highlighted the difficulties being faced by farmers working in the Northern Sound region.
Local farmer, Tom Treanor was speaking ahead of Monaghan IFA's AGM this week.
He highlighted a number of issues for farmers, including the Mercosur trade agreement, rising costs, and Bluetongue.
The IFA's AGM will take place this Thursday (March 12th) at 8pm in the Four Seasons Hotel.
IFA President, Francie Gorman, is set to address the AGM.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Mr. Treanor explained how rising fertiliser prices are having an impact on farmers locally.
He said: "Oil tends to dictate when it comes to a lot of costs, particularly fertiliser.
"We're heading into the spring time when farmers are going to be spreading fertiliser. Different companies have withdrawn offers they made last week, its come as a bit of a shock. Prices are rocketing," Mr. Treanor added.
