Local GAA clubs pay tribute after Louth accident

"As a Monaghan GAA community, we stand with you today, tomorrow, and always. We all belong."

Local GAA clubs have paid tribute to their members who died in a road crash in Co. Louth last weekend.

Five young people were killed in a road traffic collision on the R3168, Ardee Road, Dundalk Co. Louth on Saturday night.

They have been named as: Chloe McGee, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, Alan McCluskey, Drumconrath, Co. Meath, Dylan Commins, Ardee, Co. Louth, Shay Duffy, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, and Chloe Hipson, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

In a post on social media on Sunday, Magheracloone Mitchells GAA Club paid tribute to its former player, Shay Duffy.

The club extended its “heartfelt condolences” to Raymond, Carmel, Vinnie, and Ben on the passing of their son and brother, and to Danny, Teresa, Tiernan and Fiachra, on the loss of their dear cousin and nephew.

The club said: “To the family and friends of Alan, Dillon, Shay, and Chloe who are grieving, may you find peace, strength, and support through this difficult time.

“Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Aughnamullen Ladies Club has said it was “devastated” to hear of the passing of its former player, Chloe McGee.

In a statement, the club said that Chloe was a vital part of its juvenile teams throughout the years, and always gave it her all on the pitch.

It added that Chloe was always so happy, and that her smile and laugher were contagious.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to Kieran, Eileen, Stephen, Aaron and Nicola and the extended McGee and Sheridan families,” the club said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are also with the families and friends of Alan, Dylan, Shay and Chloe at this difficult time,” it added.

Monaghan GAA has also offered its condolences to the McGee family.

In a statement posted today, it extended its deepest sympathy to Monaghan Senior Hurler, and Carrickmacross Emmets hurling captain Aaron, and to the McGee family on the tragic passing of Chloe.

It also paid tribute to the families of Alan, Dylan, Shay and Chloe who are grieving “at this devastating time”.
