Gardaí in the Northern Sound region are reaching out to elderly members of
the community in a new initiative launching early in the new year.
It's part of a number of community engagement events that have taken place
in the Cavan Monaghan Garda Division.
In the week before Christmas, local gardaí delivered selection boxes and
specially designed Christmas cards with the details of local support
services to vulnerable communities.

The latest initiative will see gardaí distribute LED lights to elderly
people living in isolated areas and reminding them of crime prevention
guidelines.
Chief Superintendent Alan McGovern says it's also a chance to check in on
elderly members of the community and offer them some company after
Christmas:
