Gardai in Carrickmacross have issued a statement this evening in relation to misinformation, disinformation and uninformed commentary circulating on social media as a result of a recent video posted online.
They have confirmed in the statement that they have carried out enquiries relating to this video and confirmed it involves juveniles using a toy item, which has been recovered.
Enquiries are ongoing and Gardaí are satisfied there are no public safety concerns arising from the online video, at this time.
The statement that they have issued added that misinformation, disinformation and fake news can spread fear and concern in peaceful communities with incorrect and dangerous misconceptions, particularly about International Protection and minority groups.
An Garda Síochána say they appeal to the public to independently verify any information on social media and / or on messaging apps.
Meanwhile, Gardai in Carrickmacross are investigating a number of criminal damage incidents, involving the vandalism to the tyres of four vehicles which occurred in the Lough na Glack estate in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, sometime overnight on the 17th/18th April 2025.
