All poultry workers are entitled to a flu vaccine and should avail of this.
That's according to Monaghan GP Dr Ilona Duffy who says those working on poultry farms are at a higher risk to exposure of avian flu and seasonal flu.
The fifth outbreak of avian flu in the republic of Ireland was confirmed in Co Cavan yesterday.
By offering a free flu vaccine to poultry workers, Dr Duffy said the HSE is protecting workers not only in this sector but their families, loved ones and those they live with.
While the local GP understands there is a certain element of vaccine fatigue, she warned that flu is hitting Ireland harder and even earlier this year and already has caused deaths.
