A local member of the LGBTQ community believes people were more accepting of same sex couples a decade ago.
Tomorrow marks ten years since the marriage equality referendum was passed.
The LGBT community has been critical of the sentiment as of late, with claims levels of acceptance have dropped.
Bernardine Quinn is from Outcomers who are a social and support group for the LGBTQ+ people in the North East.
She says marriage equality was a significant milestone and it offered an opportunity to educate people about the plight that people from the LGBTQ+ community face.
Bernardine says unfortunately there has been a shift in the wrong direction towards acceptance and she believes if the referendum took place today, it may be harder to pass compared to 10 years ago.
