The driving force behind TB-restricted sales of cattle has originated from Kingscourt Mart.
The local livestock sales venue came up with the concept in an effort to allow farmers get a fair price for their cattle.
Lisa Keenan, the manager and livestock auctioneer at Kingscourt Mart hosted the first ever mart sale for TB-restricted herds in the country in recent weeks. The cattle that are in the herd are auctioned on the mart eye app in batches.
Lisa says there is strong demand for quality store and beef cattle. Kingscourt Mart have 90 cattle from TB-restricted herds up for sale tomorrow coming from farms from Co Monaghan, Co Tipperary and Co Meath.
The concept allows CFU (controlled finishing units) able to register bid at the online sales.
Since Lisa began the idea, a number of other livestock marts in the country have followed suit. She believes the idea is very fair and very much needed in the country.
