Cavan-Monaghan TD Niamh Smyth has expressed her shock and sadness over the death of Hugh Wallace.
The well known architect and television presenter died suddenly at the age of 68.
His husband Martin shared the news on Instagram, saying he passed away at their home last night.
In a statement issued to Northern Sound, Minister Niamh Smyth said: "I'm shocked & saddened to hear the news of Hugh Wallace’s passing. I had the honour and pleasure of meeting him in Virginia just a few weeks ago, where his enthusiasm and passion was evident for all to see.
"He brought wonderful humour and architectural style to all facets of his work and his communication skills were amazing. His warm welcoming face will be sadly missed from our screens but his charming stories will live long in our memories. Faoi bhraith Mhuire go raibh sé."
