A local councillor has warned that pensioners are "falling off a cliff" when it comes to affording rent.
Speaking at a recent sitting of the Local Community Safety Partnership, Cllr Noel Keelan said people at pension age living locally cannot afford to pay rent and are living in fear.
The Sinn Fein representative warned that we're going through one of the worst housing crisis that the country has ever seen.
Accessing a house to rent or buy at an affordable cost is almost impossible even for working people.
He says people over the age of 65 who are living off their pension are finding themselves in fear of being evicted.
Cllr Keelan did praise the work done by the housing section in Monaghan County Council.
Despite this, Cllr Keelan warned that more needs to be done when it comes to affordable housing for people over the age of 65.
