Local politician 'welcomes' restoration of Stormont

Cllr Maxwell says issues that need urgent attention include spiralling hospital waiting lists, and public sector pay strikes.

The return of power-sharing in the North has been welcomed by local politician David Maxwell. After 729 days of political stalemate in Northern Ireland, tomorrow will mark the end of the latest Stormont collapse. The DUP is returning, exactly two years to the day since the party walked out in protest at post-Brexit arrangements. According to the local Fine Gael representative this will provide an opportunity for urgent issues to be addressed. Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, Cllr Maxell says the release of the UK's £3.3 billion package will go a "long way" in helping public services in the North which he says are under "enormous pressure."

Cllr Maxwell said; "We've seen over the last number of weeks some of the biggest strikes that have ever taken place in Northern Ireland, so this package will hopefully sort out pay for public sector workers which has to be a good news story."
