There has been local reactions to reports this week about a number of proposed exemptions to planning permissions.
This week, a four week public consultation was launched for review of exempted development.
This means that potentially, thousands of small building projects could move forward without consultation.
Some exceptions could include modular homes of a certain size built at the back of a home or in a garden.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show Former Cavan-Monaghan TD Paudge Connolly, voiced his concerns about the issue.
"I disagree with it. I believe that if you're putting a mobile or a cabin in your backyard, it should absolutely be subject to planning conditions. You have height issues. You have neighbour issues. At the moment, you can have a four metre high, with a pitched roof. Neighbours' privacy has got to be considered. If it's not subject to planning or regulation, is it properly connected to sewage and services? Those are issues that we can't ignore. And I think that we're only creating problems down the road. It's proper housing that should be provided, not cabins in backyards. That will not solve any housing crisis"
