Local rep calls for improved access to education for special needs children

A Co Monaghan woman has outlined the challenges faced by parents and carers of children with special needs.
Local Aontú representative Olivia Larkin is part of Special Needs Active Parents which campaigns for improved special needs services in Monaghan.
Olivia says parents are waiting on an activation unit for children coming out of secondary school aged 18, an increase in respite services and additional special school places.

Ms Larkin highlighted that there are already a number of parents who have no idea where their children are going to secondary school next year, with no places available for September once they leave school in June at the moment.
The local representative says parents are in "absolute limbo" and its "frustrating" and "heart-breaking" that special needs children are always last on the list when it comes to education.
Olivia described the current situation as "not good enough" and has called for urgent change:
