A local Sinn Féin councillor says it would be 'great' to see a candidate from her party join the race for the Áras.
It follows the 'explosive' news of Mairead McGuinness' withdrawal as the Fine Gael presidential candidate.
A statement from Ms. McGuinness explained the decision was 'not taken lightly' and comes over medical reasons.
Independent candidate Catherine Connolly is now the front-runner in the presidential race, while Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin are yet to formally announce their intentions.
