Sinn Féin TD for Monaghan-Cavan, Cathy Bennett has said that Catherine Connolly is “the real deal”.
She described the independent candidate as “authentic, an independent voice, and a great representative for Ireland”.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Deputy Bennett said that nobody has won anything yet, but highlighted that the polls are very encouraging.
She believes Ms. Connolly has been a magnificent party for Sinn Féin to get behind, and that they have never seen that level in Sinn Féin before.
According to the TD, there is a united front between the left wing parties against the government.
Deputy Bennett said: "We can't believe the tens of thousands of people who signed up for the campaign online.
"It's been unbelievable, we've never seen it before in any election. We've been running elections for a long time in Sinn Féin, and we've never seen any of our elections being run as good as this," she added.
