A local TD is calling for the government to boost investment in rural roads.
Deputy Brendan Smith says the war in Ukraine and the pandemic has significantly impacted the development of the non-national road network.
It comes as the Minister for Transport has confirmed just over €37 million was allocated across counties Monaghan and Cavan to develop rural and local roads and laneways this year.
More than 95% of roads in Co. Cavan are classified as part of the non-national network.
The reviewed National Development Plan is outlining the need for more investment in transport, however deputy Brendan Smith is advocating for funding that is specifically tailored to rural roads.
