A local TD has called on the government to 'get real' on the impact that the cost-of-living crisis is having on workers and families.
Deputy Matt Carthy accused Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael of failing to understand the pressures that many people are under.
The local TD says the Government have categorically stated that they will not include a cost-of-living package in this years budget.
Deputy Carthy says this means many families will be worse off than last year. An Irish League of Credit Union survey released today shows that one in three families are being forced into debt due to back-to-school costs highlights.
The survey had 730 respondents and found that the number of families taking out loans to cover back-to-school costs has tripled to 12%.
Cavan/Monaghan TD Matt Carthy says at a time when living costs are through the roof, when people are hit by skyrocketing prices from every direction, government instead proposes to abandon households with no help at all. He says the Government must include a cost-of-living package in October's Budget.
