A local TD believes emergency legislation is needed in on flood defence systems.
Fine Gael TD, David Maxwell highlighted that all around the country, flood defences are delayed by planning for a number of years.
He said that people are objecting to flood works in an area, from a different part of the country.
It comes following a number of floods across the country after heavy rainfall and storms in recent weeks.
Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, Deputy Maxwell said he would support emergency legislation for flood defence legislation.
According to Deputy Maxwell, funding is available for additional flood legislation.
Deputy Maxwell said: "It has got to a stage now where we see flood defences all around the country being delayed, or in planning for 10, 12, 15 years, its just over different issues.
"We see people objecting to flooding defences not even from that part of the country, from other parts of the country.
"I think it will take emergency legislation, I would support it that we put that in place, and deliver these flood defence systems for our towns and villages where its needed," he added.
