A local TD has claimed that the Minister for Justice makes "a lot of announcements" and doesn't "follow through" on his commitments.
It comes after it emerged that the Government is to cut the time it takes to process asylum applications.
It's part of new measures brought to cabinet today by the Justice Minister, which would also see reunification times for families of refugees increased to three years.
According to Sinn Féin's justice spokesperson, Matt Carthy, only one piece of minor legislation was passed in the justice portfolio was passed last year.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he said that there is nothing substantial done to tackle deficiencies in our international protection system.
Deputy Carthy said: "This is very typical of the Justice Minister, he makes a lot of announcements. The difficulty is that most of them announcements aren't actually followed through.
"Over the course of 2025, your listeners will have heard the minister announce X, Y, or Z. In reality, only one piece of minor legislation was passed within the justice portfolio, and its related to civil law.
"There is nothing substantive done to tackle the deficiencies, particularly in the IPAS system. After almost a year in office, there has been no real action in tackling the fundamental problems in our international protection system," he added.
