Gerry Atkinson received the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's Monaghan Volunteer Awards.
This category honours a volunteer whose long-term service and commitment to the community demonstrate exceptional dedication and impact over many years.
With 39 years of voluntary service, Gerry has been a steady, skilled presence in moments of crisis.
Through his work with Civil Defence, the Community First Responders, and as a First Aider with Cremartin GAA, Gerry has saved lives, mentored new volunteers, and provided comfort to families at their most vulnerable times.
Known for his humility and reliability, he is as likely to be found on the GAA side line as he is visiting nursing homes with his husky, Bella.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Gerry said he was "shocked" to win the award.
He says it's of vital importance for people to volunteer within their own community, especially if it means being there for someone during their time of need.
Gerry’s dedication to helping others without ever seeking recognition is what has made him a shining example of lifelong volunteerism.
