Local women are being encouraged to join the See Her Elected Campaign.
This initiative was set up in the hope that more women in rural areas in particular will run for local election in 2024.
In Monaghan there are currently 3 female councillors, with 4 in Cavan, while areas closer to urban centres have closer to a 50/50 split between men and women.

Michelle Maher co-founder of the campaign says that women from both counties have joined in their droves.
Workshops start next week and she says it’s about engaging politically but also getting women to stay involved.
