Major floods create disruption in Cavan/Monaghan

People are being asked to stay inside if possible, and consider if a journey is absolutely necessary before undertaking it.

Cavan and Monaghan are currently under a status yellow wind warning, as Storm Amy makes landfall.

Motorists in the region have been advised take extra care if travelling and plan your journeys with caution.

A status orange wind warning has been extended to six counties along the west coast.

Locally, Met Eireann is advising difficult travelling conditions, debris, loose objects displaced, some fallen trees possible

Cavan County Council has issued advice for the public, including to check in on isolated and vulnerable neighbours in advance of the oncoming severe weather and again after the worst of the event has passed and to take special care when driving.

Elsewhere in Co Monaghan a number of roads have been closed due to flooding.

Traffic is flowing extremely slowly in Monaghan Town, particularly at the traffic lights with parts of the town not passible due to rising flood water.
