A man has been killed in a workplace accident in Co Longford. The man in his 60s was working on a closed section of the Athlone Road in Ballymahon when he was hit by a works vehicle after 7 o'clock yesterday evening. He was pronounced dead at the scene and the area was preserved for a technical examination. Both the Health and Safety Authority and the local coroner have been informed of the incident. The Athlone Road entering the town was closed for a time but has since reopened.
