Man enters Co Cavan lake to escape arrest from Gardai

A man that was being arrested by Gardai in Co Cavan fled on foot and entered a local lake.

Gardaí and emergency services attended an incident that occurred in Shercock in Tuesday evening at approximately 5:45pm.

While in the process of being arrested by Gardaí, a man aged in his 30s fled on foot and entered the water at Lough Sillan. He was subsequently safely located from the lake by Meath River Rescue and received medical attention by emergency services that was on the scene.

Northern Sound FM understands that the Armed Garda Support Unit were also in attendance at the lake on the edge of Shercock. Gardai confirmed the man is now in custody.
