Man further remanded in jail over spate of thefts across the region

The dates of the alleged offences range over a period of time from July 2025 to September 2025

A 33-year-old man has been further remanded in custody in relation to a spate of thefts from businesses across Cavan, Louth, Meath and Monaghan.

Luke Wall, with an address at Cois na hAbhann, Bonninconlon, Ballina, Co Mayo, appeared before Monaghan District Court.

The accused was arrested following a high-speed chase involving armed gardaí across counties Meath and Westmeath in early September and has been in custody since his arrest.

Mr Wall was charged with 22 counts in total with 1 count being withdrawn. The charges relate to being a trespasser on various commercial premises and businesses and committing theft therein.

The dates of the alleged offences range over a period of time from July 2025 to September 2025. The charges are contrary to section 12(1)(b) and 3 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud) Act.

Mr Wall is further charged with driving in a manner, which created a substantial risk of death or serious harm to another on the N52 at Cloughan, Mullingar on the 9th of September which is contrary to Section 13 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

On the same date in September, the accused is charged with allegedly carry a retractable utility knife at a service station near Kells, Co. Meath, this charge relates to allegedly producing an knife in a manner towards another person that would be capable of inflicting serious injury, contrary to section 11 Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990.

An alleged theft from a beauty salon in Carrickmacross and another in Ballybay along with a theft from Kingscourt Community Centre and a funeral home in Dundalk are some of the charges that Mr Wall faces. His barrister, Emer Brennan told the court that no bail application was being made at this time.

Mr Wall has been in jail since his arrest in September and further charges were added at Monaghan District Court yesterday leaving him now facing 21 charges in total.

Judge Raymond Finnegan remanded the accused in custody to appear via video-link at next Monday's sitting of Monaghan District Court.
