A man aged in his 20s from Co Monaghan accused of allegedly threatening to slit the throat of a barmaid has been further remanded in jail at Monaghan District Court.
The man was in front of Judge Raymond Finnegan via video link at Monaghan District Court today in relation to the incident.
21-year-old John Cawley of no fixed abode, Castleblayney, Monaghan is charged with assault, criminal damage, threatening to damage property and public order arising from an incident in Castleblayney on December 1st.
The 21-year-old appeared once again today via video link with the court being told that Gardai are awaiting DPP directions in the case.
The court also heard that High Court bail was granted to the young Co Monaghan man in relation to the incident and he was set to be released under bail conditions today.
Evidence was heard by the arresting Garda at a sitting of Cavan District Court last month, saying that Gardai called to The Emerald Bar, Main Street, Castleblayney on December 1st following a report from a named alleged female victim that she had been assaulted by Mr Cawley.
The Garda said the woman revealed how she had been allegedly approached by the accused where he allegedly told her he would “slit her throat” if she attempted to attend his grandfather’s funeral.
During the alleged altercation, it’s alleged that criminal damage was caused to the public house during the course of the incident, namely damage to an internal bar door.
Judge Raymond Finnegan remanded the accused and he set to appear in front of Monaghan District Court on the 19th of January for DPP directions oin the case.
