A man has died while swimming in a lake near Ennis in County Clare.
Emergency crews were alerted when the man in his 40s, appeared to get into difficulty near the Old Pier at Ballyalla Lake.
An alarm was raised when the man didn't resurface after being seen diving into Ballyalla Lake around 6.30pm yesterday evening,

The Shannon based Rescue 115 helicopter was called to the scene along with Gardai and a HSE ambulance crew.
He was brought ashore shortly afterwards, but pronounced dead at the scene.
The man's body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will be carried out later.
